SSC Stenographer English Skill Test Procedure & Evaluation
Official examination procedure, dictation duration, transcription timings, and mistake calculation criteria.
1. Dictation & Reading Time
- • Trial Dictation: 1-2 min trial passage to check audio clarity.
- • Grade C Dictation: 10 Minutes @ 100 WPM (Total 1,000 words).
- • Grade D Dictation: 10 Minutes @ 80 WPM (Total 800 words).
- • Reading Time: 10 Minutes to read handwritten shorthand outlines before typing.
2. Computer Transcription Time
- • Grade D (English): 50 Minutes computer typing time.
- • Grade C (English): 40 Minutes computer typing time.
- • Grade D (Hindi): 65 Minutes.
- • Grade C (Hindi): 55 Minutes.
3. Max Allowed Mistake % Limit
- • Grade C (UR): Up to 5% mistakes allowed.
- • Grade C (OBC/SC/ST/EWS): Up to 7% mistakes allowed.
- • Grade D (UR): Up to 7% mistakes allowed.
- • Grade D (OBC/SC/ST/EWS): Up to 10% mistakes allowed.
Evaluation Criteria: Full Mistakes vs Half Mistakes
Full Mistakes (1 Mark Deducted):
Every omission of a word, substitution of a wrong word in place of the dictated word, or addition of any extra word not in dictation.
Half Mistakes (0.5 Mark Deducted):
Spelling mistakes, wrong use of capital/small letters at the start of a sentence or proper noun, singular in place of plural (or vice-versa), and punctuation omission.
